The Coping Cage

The Coping Cage is a performance piece that I did in undergrad and was one of my first attempts at performance art. For this piece I welded myself into a cage as a physical manifestation of the mental illnesses I grew up with. Having anxiety and depression for the majority of my life, I didn’t think much of how I felt, I thought that it was just how life was. And because of that, I had a tendency to pull myself away from social interactions. This was a big stepping stone for me as an artist, and as a human seeking to better my mental health. A short documentary was put together by Seth Grant for your viewing pleasure.
